I found this simple DIY yogurt "recipe" by Lauren over at Healthy Food for Living. I was excited to create this combination because there are no added sugars or preservatives (unlike the store bought fruit-on-the-bottom yogurts).
I gathered up my supplies:
- Jars (I used 4 ounce Gerber jars)
- Ripe peaches (from my local farmer's market)
- Fage Total 0% Greek yogurt (I am partial to Greek yogurt because it is packed with protein, possesses a low sodium content, and contains fewer carbs than it's counterpart. It took a while to adjust to the consistency, but now I love the thick and creamy texture.)
I chopped my peaches into chunks and placed an ounce in the bottom of each jar. I topped this base with 3 ounces of yogurt, and capped them.
Ouala! I have tasty low-calorie/carbohydrate yogurt cups to enjoy!
Fage Total 0% Greek Yogurt (3 ounces): 49 calories, 3.4 carbs
Peaches (1 ounce): 12 calories, 3.1 carbs
Total: 61 calories, 6.5 carbs
Random question for you...what kind of kitchen scale do you have? Do you like it? Does it have a glass base? I'm in the market for one.
ReplyDeleteI have the Salter Nutritional Scale (model 1400). It has a stainless steel weighing tray (not in the picture), but the base you see is some sort of plastic. It comes with a large book of food codes as well. I love it-- it has definitely helped me to track calories/carbs and I've learned a lot about portions. :)
