The Newest Additions to Our Family

I swore up and down that I would never get another dog. That is, until I decided to go visit a litter of four puppies that just so happen to be in Chloe's bloodline. The breeder called my dad the week the puppies were born and we made our way out to visit when they were just shy of three-weeks-old.

The puppies were adorable and so tiny-- they fit in the palm of my hand! Their little bodies were covered in slick black and gold hair. They slept through our visit and when we put them back in their box, they wobbled on their little legs to their dog-pile. The breeders, Eileen and Nancy, expressed how much they would love for us to take a puppy because they knew the dog would go to a good home. We told them that we would think about it and left, knowing that we had three weeks to reach a decision.

Three weeks later, we were back at Eileen's house. The puppies had transformed into little balls of fur and their personalities were shining through. One of the girls followed me around, sat on my lap, and nuzzled against my neck. I love her. The feisty little boy, the runt, ran in circles and chewed on everything he could find. I love him too. He gravitated towards my dad and showed so much spunk. Then it happened. The boy hopped around the room and we began discussing names. Since college, I always said that if I had a boy dog, I would name him Winston. "Come here Winston!" He trotted over and we realized... uh oh... we just named the puppy! The two of them curled into a ball in my lap and looked up at us. Two dogs?! We'll take them.

We immediately began preparing for the puppies. First things first, the girl still needed a name. We decided to go with a british name to match the yorkshire origin. We googled the top 100 british girl names and discovered Ella, which means beautiful fairy. Perfect. Then, we stocked up on food, beds, and a ton of toys, including these adorable Fisher-Price throwbacks

The following Saturday, also known as adoption day, we went to pick up the seven-week-old pups. During this visit they were sprinting across the room and tackling each other. They had so much energy! They were very curious and just learning about toys.

My parents and I are having a lot of fun with these little chunks! Ella and Winston turned nine-weeks-old today. They are incredibly playful and a joy to watch with one another.

  1. Oh I just love them! So cute! Makes me want a pup so bad! Maybe I could sneak a little tiny one into my office everyday without my Dad knowing- haha!
