JDRF Dream Guild

I came across the JDRF Dream Guild while scouring various websites looking for ways to get involved in advocacy. The guild appealed to me immediately as a way to raise awareness through various events within my community. The Orange County chapter began in 2005 and is currently comprised of more than one hundred ladies within the area. I was anxious to get involved with this organization and without hesitation, filled out my application and sent in my membership dues.

Earlier this month, I attended my first meeting. From the minute I walked through the doors, these lovely women were whisking me away to talk about our connections to this disease. They made me feel welcomed, understood, and gave me hope. I felt reenergized-- I was surrounded by dozens of influential, intelligent women that will not stop fighting until there is a cure.

The meeting went wonderfully. We chatted over Starbucks coffee and a delicious breakfast spread from Zinc Cafe. We discussed upcoming events within our chapter and various ways to get involved. Afterward, we perused a makeshift boutique compliments of Sydney Michelle, a chic store located on Balboa Island. The owner of Sydney Michelle was kind enough to offer a 20% discount on merchandise, with another 20% of all sales donated to the JDRF. Have I mentioned how much I love my community?

I stuck around after the meeting concluded to continue my conversations with some of the women. We spoke about different aspects of the guild and the responsibilities associated with the leadership roles. The morning concluded with me joining the Board of Directors as their new Public Relations Chair. I couldn't be happier-- each and every one of these women are exceptional and I look forward to working with them from this point forward.

I'm already echoing their sentiments: This isn't a club I would have joined by choice, but now that I have this disease, I'm in the best of company. I feel truly blessed to have found these women.
